Olympic Dam Operations (WMC)

Western Mining engaged Burgess BLA to replace the girth gear on the 34 ft Sag Mill at Olympic Dam Operations. This was awarded to Burgess BLA after the successful girth gear change at KCGM Fimiston in Kalgoorlie Western Australia.

Burgess BLA's project management team and Western Mining put together a comprehensive plan to execute the project in the shortest possible time. The gear change was completed on time without incident or accident. BLA remained on site after the mill was running to continue monitoring of the 2 pinions and adjusting as the load increased on the mill. The drive trains were laser aligned and mill returned to full production. The final outcome was a great achievement by both parties.
